Shrimp cocktail

Shrimp Cocktail is a popular retro dish that had its heyday in Norway during the 1980s. Shrimp Cocktail was typically served as a starter at confirmations, weddings, and other significant occasions, and most fine hotel restaurants had Shrimp Cocktail on their menu.

It is said that Shrimp Cocktail was invented by a French chef already in the 19th century, but the dish was truly popularized by the British TV chef Fanny Cradock in the 1960s. She served Shrimp Cocktail with a dressing she called Marie Rose dressing, which consists of mayonnaise, sour cream, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, a little lemon juice, and preferably a splash of cognac. The dressing is very similar to American Thousand Island dressing, but is made without finely chopped pickles.

With fresh shrimp, crisp salad ingredients, and homemade dressing, Shrimp Cocktail is a really delicious starter that still hits the spot!

Shrimp Cocktail can be served in elegant cocktail glasses! 😃

The recipe yields 4 servings.

Tips:

♥ When making Shrimp Cocktail, it is important that you use large, nice shrimp that you peel yourself. The 400 grams of shrimp in the recipe refers to the weight after peeling.

♥ You can of course omit the cognac in the dressing, but in a classic Shrimp Cocktail, it is a must! 😉

♥ Shrimp Cocktail should be served freshly made.

Enjoy!

♥ When you make Prawn Cocktail, it's important to use large, good-quality prawns that you peel yourself. With 400 grams of prawns in the recipe, it means the weighed amount after peeling.
