Sgroppino al limone (Italian drink with lemon sorbet)

These are beautiful summer days in Oslo right now, and it's soon the weekend too. 😃 Then it might be appropriate to serve a delicious, ice-cold, Italian dessert drink after the meal! 😎

Sgroppino al limone was apparently invented in Venice in the 1600s, where the drink was served between meals in the aristocratic environment as a "digestivo". "Sgroppino" (pronounced "sgro-pi-no") means to "loosen up" in Italian, which was precisely the intention of the drink.

Sgroppino al limone is made with lemon sorbet, vodka, and prosecco. The lemon sorbet gives the drink a lovely foam on top and a light, sweet taste. If you want an even sweeter variant, you can replace vodka with the lemon liqueur Limoncello.

Below is a recipe that makes 8 glasses, which can be handy when you have a gathering.

You will also get a recipe that makes 1 drink.

Ingredients:

8 glasses:
♥ 1 liter lemon sorbet
♥ 3.5 dl vodka or Limoncello
♥ 7 dl prosecco (1 bottle)

1 glass:
♥ 1.5 dl lemon sorbet
♥ 0.5 dl vodka or Limoncello
♥ 1 dl prosecco

Method:

Put the lemon sorbet in a bowl.

Add vodka (or Limoncello).

Stir this together with a fork (it's okay if there are some pieces of lemon sorbet left, as they will melt).

Fill up with prosecco.

Scoop the drink into chilled cocktail glasses.

Serve immediately while the drink is ice-cold and foamy.

If you are making only 1 drink, you can mix it directly in the glass.

Delicious, classic Italian cocktail! 😍

Tips:

♥ Instead of using a fork, you can whisk the drink with a balloon whisk or gently use an electric hand mixer. If you only make 1 drink, you can mix it in a shaker.

♥ If you want, you can garnish the glass with a small slice of lemon or some lemon peel and/or a bit of fresh mint.

♥ Prosecco is a fruity, sparkling white wine from Northern Italy. It's available at the store.

♥ I used vodka here, but as mentioned, many also use Limoncello. Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur. Also available at the store.

♥ Sgroppino can also be made with other flavors. Replace lemon sorbet with strawberry sorbet, mango sorbet, etc., but keep vodka (or Limoncello) and prosecco.

♥ Alcoholic drinks are for adults and should be enjoyed in moderation. Drinks should never be served to minors.

SGROPPINO MOCKTAIL:
You can make an alcohol-free version by skipping vodka (or Limoncello) and using only lemon sorbet and alcohol-free bubbles (available at the store) or lemon soda.

Enjoy!
